Chalkboard art. Where to start?
I love it. I have always loved it.
It may be new to some people and has been all the rage the last few years, but in reality, the art form has been around for quite some time.
I even designed my new header around the whole concept, that's how much I enjoy it.
I think I get my love for it from my time spent working in restaurants, bars and hotels. A good chalkboard advertising your specials goes a long way in drawing people into your restaurant and I have had the pleasure of watching some very talented people create some beautiful pieces of art.
Only to erase it all and start anew the next day.
I guess that's the downside of chalkboard art, it has a short shelf life and all too vulnerable to the soggy fingers of a curious toddler walking by.
One of the more famous chalkboard artists is Dana Tanamachi who has done chalkboard designs for West Elm and Ralph Lauren. Her work was featured on the cover of O Magazine in February. She's pretty much the guru of chalkboard art right now.
Tomorrow I will give you the Cliff Notes version on how I made my header, since that seems to be the question of the month in my emails. You ask, I answer!
All photos on this page are from Dana Tanamachi (if only I could create something that cool).

Oh my gosh, she is GOOD! Loved the little video too. It's interesting to me that she has a client in the Okanagan (BC, Canada). It is good to see too how she does, and redoes each piece. Thanks for this Pam! 🙂

Thanks for showing the chalkboard art videos, Pam. I think I can do one now! NOT!
Love the Header.
Can't wait to see more. We have chalkboard paint on a wall in the garage. Josie LOVES it.
I just hung a chalk board cut out thing in my dining room. It was easy. I am no artist and have horrid hand writing from writing in patients charts for a hundred years so I could never do what you have shown. Can't wait to see your tutorial. xo, olive
I'm such a fan of chalkboard art and just did one for my office. And by the way, I noticed your header right away. Very eye catching.

I need to take a chalkboard art class or something..because I have never been good at it and have always wanted to be! These look awesome!
I love, love, love chalkboard art too! I tried to create my own one day, but it didn't turn out the way I hoped with letters going slightly crooked...not a good look.
Love the new header!
Going over to check out the link.
Thanks for posting such great inspirational pictures too...
get's me in the mood to re-do my chalkboards 🙂
I love the chalkboard art. I get frustrated on the computer trying to download new stuff, but this would be one I like, I have a couple of huge chalkboards that would be fun to do it on.
