Thought I'd give you an update on my World's Longest Yard Sale adventure this weekend. How to sum it up? How . . . would . . . I . . . sum . . . it . . . up . . .
Oh, I didn't go.
Yeah, it was one of the weeks at my house where nothing was lining up and try as hard as I could, I couldn't fit it in with all the other stuff we had going on.

Is it ironic that I did a tongue-in-cheek post about 5 Reasons To Not Shop The World's Longest Yard Sale and then didn't shop it?
Melissa at Melissa's Antiques has her post about the sale on her blog today. Because she actually went. To the sale. Like she said she was going to do.
I did try to get out to some local sales here for a few minutes though.
On Friday morning, I found the bean pot in the first photo for a buck at a little church sale down the street from me. I thought I might use it as part of my fall decor??? Yes, I'm thinking fall decor already!
These vintage plastic paper plate holders were 8 for a $1.
I found this farm type stuff at a little yard sale that I stumbled across on the way back home.
I'm pretty sure the rake will make an appearance on my front porch this fall.
I love the basket. I believe the initials stand for H. J. Heinz.
Maybe it's a tomato basket???
And then on Saturday morning, I had big plans to hit up a few sales. First stop was a church rummage sale followed by a promising looking barn sale and then a few thrift stores.
I only had about two hours to do all this in, because of the aforementioned stuff, but I was a woman on a mission.
I've always wanted one of these vintage wicker hampers so when I saw "25" on it at the church rummage sale, I was bummed. Until I realized it was 25 CENTS. What were they thinking?
I tell you, old ladies and their pricing strategies are what keep me coming back to the church sales (if you're new here, I wrote a post about Shopping Church Rummage Sales a few weeks ago and it totally explains my love affair with the old ladies).
This one had "rags" written in marker on the wooden lid and unbeknownst to me when I bought it, it came with a bunch of old dirty rags in the bottom.
Yuck.
Yuck.
And yuck!
I'll be painting it. And Lysoling out the interior.
I also bought this wooden ice cream churn. It's electric so it can't be that old, but I thought it would look cute painted and used as a planter for fall mums. Maybe painted in a gold color???
It was much, much more expensive than the hamper. 50 cents.
I was sort of pumped with my church sale finds and excited about going to the next sale, so I jumped on the expressway and sped off to the barn sale.
Until my lights started flashing on my dashboard and my tire pressure on one of my front wheels went from 34 to 24 in a matter of seconds and kept going lower and lower. VERY QUICKLY.
Ugh! I had a flat!
End of the shopping day for me. I spent the rest of the day calling AAA (not AA, although I was in the mood for a drink right about then) and getting the tire patched.
I was all ready to have a pity party for myself because the weekend was NOTHING like I had planned, but you know what? At least I wasn't 300 miles away from home at the World's Longest Yard Sale when this happened!
So I'm going to go ahead and call this weekend in yard sale land a WIN.

Haha, well things end up working out for the best, don't they? It would have been the pits to call a repair guy on the interstate so far from home. Looks like you hit up some good sales though. Love the picnic plate holders! And the basket! Cool finds!

I did go on a short portion of the 127 yard sale, and while what I bought was mostly not vintage, I did score a coup on some Hummels to add to my collection. Paperbacks...the same. And, a pair of brass cranes that look older than most I've seen, though I'm not up to date on brass items...they told me they wanted to live with me, so...here they are.
I did think of you when at a vintage store and tripped across a set of plaid thermoses with beverage cooler, too. I didn't check the price, but was tempted, just to ask you if this was in line. Obviously everything went together...appeared to be 3-4pc. set.

I LOVE those thermos sets! It's getting harder to find the sets all together now. I normally see them for around $20-$25 at vintage/antique stores around here. And then always hope for one for $1 at an estate sale 🙂 Glad you got to go on at least a little portion of the 127. I'm jealous!

Aw, stinks you didn't get to go - but still looks like you got some treasures. It was hotter than blue blazes out there, so I think you'll be happy you stayed home. When I did a yard sale route through Tennessee?Georgia/Alabama back in May, I had a blowout on the van... and I was 7 hours from home in Alabama and the closest town was 20mi away. At least it was at the end of my journey and didn't ruin my junkin' plans.

How sad! Sad, sad, sad. The WLYS remains on my bucket list. The year I intended to go, motel reservations and everything, is the year I acquired grandkids, instead. It's still on the list.

I think you lucked out, Pam, not having that flat on the interstate, despite the disappointment of not getting to go to The World's Longest Yard Sale. Sometimes you just have to accept that the Universe has plans for you that are different than the well-laid ones that you have!
You got some nice items from your local 'saleing' though. Maybe next year you and I will both get to go to that "longest" one! I've always wanted to.

I luv the little bean pot and it is perfect for fall! Envy...but I did have one of those old wicker hampers back in "the day". I think I got it with Top Value stamps...and many years later I bought a miniature one for my daughter's doll clothes...it matched a wicker doll bassinet. Ahhh...memories. I think you were awarded some good treasures while the Lord watched over you & your car...knowing a flat was on the way. Plus you didn't have to carry the quilt around with you because of the other "stuff" that needed doing! Good hunt...even if it was local.

Your stars were definitely lining up when things didn't go as you had planned. I'm glad you weren't in a bad place with that flat! Here in Central Texas this coming weekend is the 100 Miles of Hell Yard Sale. Meaning Hotter'n'Hell. And this year it lives up to its name. Thankfully we are expecting a small chance of rain next week and the temps might come down to mid-90's. WOO-HOO ! Love what you found at the sales. I'm getting ready to work at our church sale, where bargains abound !

Great Garage Sale finds!
I just saw a set of 10 of your same vintage, plastic paper plate holders on sale at Esty for $16.50 and wicker holders are selling for upwards of $2.00 each! Pam, if you only knew how many I've thrown out over the years. Sheesh!
Also, I'm not sure how I feel about the hamper, but the BASKET is FANTASTIC! (I'm a poet and didn't know it...LOL) I think HJH Co. may stand for HJ Heinz, as in Heinz Ketchup. It was most likely used to pick tomatoes. And judging by how it's labeled ("property of") old man Heinz REALLY didn't want tomato pickers walking off with his baskets!

Well they do say that life is what happens when you're making other plans. Sorry that you missed the sale this year, but you also proved that you don't have to go far from home to find the good stuff. There's treasure everywhere! (As Calvin and Hobbes would say...) I also love church sales and the old lady pricing. There is nothing like it, not even on Highway 127.
I made one small 127 stop and got a few goodies. My post about it is up at my blog now.

Well, at least you made the one stop count! Love that chest and love that chair. Those chairs and the desks that go with them are sort of hot around here right now. I think it's the industrial look of them.

I think your finds are GREAT, Pam! I am looking toward fall, too. Our summer here in MN has been brutal - waaaay too hot, waaaay too wet, and now the mosquitoes are everywhere. Don't remember them ever being so vicious. So, am happy to be thinking about autumn. Love your bean pot, it will look so pretty among your other fall pieces. Can't wait to see how you purpose it! As always, love your unending inspiration!
